AZ61

AZ61 is a medium strength wrought magnesium alloy for extrusion and forgings. The alloy contains additions of aluminum, zinc and manganese, and develops its properties without the need for heat treatment. AZ61 is fully weldable by the inert gas tungsten arc (TIG) process. Welded components may be given a stress relieving heat treatment of a short duration at moderate temperatures. Like other magnesium alloys, AZ61 offers excellent machinability.

To date, the alloy has been used extensively for aerospace and defense applications.
